Types and bases of practices

The EP "Foreign Philology" and "Translation Studies" require professional practice.

In this regard, to obtain practical skills at the university, a practice-oriented learning model has been developed:
  • educational (introductory) practical training (excursion in a business environment) for the 1st year students;
  • industrial, pedagogical practical training for the 2-4 (Foreign Philology) courses;
  • practice-oriented classes, industrial and pre-diploma practices, the implementation of diploma works for the 4th year students

As a basis for conducting professional practical training for students, the stationary activities of the organizations determined to conduct it shall correspond to the requirements of the educational program and possess qualified personnel to manage professional practice and material and technical base.

The base of the educational (introductory) practice is the linguistic laboratory of the Kostanay Regional University.

The bases of pedagogical practical training are educational organizations (schools, gymnasiums, colleges in Kostanay and Kostanay region) that provide secondary general education, technical vocational education, organizations that provide higher education. The teaching practice of master and PhD students, as a rule, is carried out at the graduating departments.

The bases of industrial practical training are organizations that correspond to the profile of the trained speciality (or related organizations).

The university concludes contracts with the practice bases in accordance with the form established at the university no later than 1 month before the start of the practical training. The Department of Foreign Philology has concluded agreements with the following enterprises: SaryarkaAvtoProm LLP, Stomed LLP, Grand Luxe Language Center LLP, Kostanay Regional Universal Scientific Library named after L. Tolstoy ”, State Institution“ Education Department of the Akimat of Kostanay ”, AOE“ Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools ”. The university has termless contracts with Agromashholding JSC and Saryarka AvtoProm LLP, Metaphor Translation Bureau LLP. It should be noted that the practice is carried out not only on the basis of agreements concluded with organizations identified as bases of practices but also on the basis of individual agreements.

Employers not only provide a basis for passing the practical training, but also participate in the assessment of the results of industrial practices and internships of students, and also make proposals for adjusting the EP. To monitor satisfaction with the quality of training process of the trainees, a survey of employers is carried out.

Employers note a fairly good level of theoretical training, linguistic and translation competence, a desire for professional improvement, the ability to anticipate and solve a problem. The results of the quality of the graduates’ practical training in recent years are assessed only as "good" and "excellent". The positive dynamics of the level of employment indicates  good professional training of graduates and their demand in the labor market. Positive feedback from employers and the estimated indicators of educational activities allows us to speak of a high level of educational results and satisfaction with the quality of training of graduates.

At the Department of Foreign Philology, a lot of work is being done to establish relationships with graduates and employers. In the course of the work, contacts are established with alumni of the educational program, effective ways of interacting with employers are sought in order to adjust educational programs and improve the quality of bachelor's training (monitoring employment, inviting representatives of various organizations, holding meetings with alumni, questioning employers, interviews; requesting a vacancy, study visit of an enterprise). The results of the work allow us to judge the establishment of a feedback mechanism with graduates and employers. At the university representatives of various firms, organizations, agencies, and the media are invited to participate in job fairs, scientific and scientific-practical seminars, conferences.
