Types and bases of practices

Programs “Foreign Philology” and “Translation Studies” require a completion of professional training.

To acquire practical skills, the university has developed a practice-oriented model of education:

  • for the 1st year students: academic (introductory) training (production tours for translators);
  • for the 2nd–3rd year students: industrial trainings;
  • for the 4th year students: practice-oriented classes, industrial and pre-graduation trainings, and thesis work.

Organizations whose statutory activities correspond to the field of training and educational program requirements, and that have qualified personnel and material/technical resources, are designated as training bases.

The base for academic (introductory) training is the Linguistic Laboratory of Kostanay Regional University.

Industrial trainings are held at organizations related to the specialty or similar fields.

Teaching trainings for master’s and doctoral students are conducted at the department.

The university signs agreements with training bases using a standard form no later than one month before the training starts.

Main training partners of the department are:

  • LLP “SaryarkaAvtoProm”
  • LLP “Language Center Grand Luxe”
  • KSU “L.N. Tolstoy Kostanay Regional Universal Scientific Library”
  • GU “Education Department of the Kostanay Akimat”
  • AEO “Nazarbayev Intellectual School”
  • “Agromashholding”

Employers not only provide training opportunities but also participate in evaluating training outcomes and suggesting improvements to educational programs based on labor market demands. Employer satisfaction surveys are conducted to monitor the quality of training.

Annually, employers note students’ sufficient theoretical background, linguistic and translation competence, and motivation for professional development. Positive employment trends confirm strong professional training and demand for graduates.

The Department of Foreign Philology maintains relations with alumni and employers (employment monitoring, organizational visits, alumni meetings, employer surveys, interviews, job fairs, academic seminars, job postings, and company site tours).
