The Department of Foreign Philology was established in 2002, and the training of specialists in the specialties of "Foreign Philology" and "Translation Studies" began.

The current composition of the Department of Foreign Philology includes: 6 candidates of sciences (S. Zhabaeva, Nikiforova E.Sh., Menzada Samambet, N. Mongileva, E. Kandalina, Mansiya Samambet), 1 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (Trichik M.V.), 12 Masters of Science (Nazarenko O., Abdibekova A., Smagulova A., Shandetskaya Yu., Medetova E., Smagliy T., Aymukhanova D., Kurenko K., Mukhambetjanova R., Bukreeva R., Tkalya A., Panchurina V.). Mansiya Kalmagambetovna Samambet was awarded the honorary title of "Honorary Professor of KGU" in 2019.

Among the leading professors, experienced professors with many years of work have gained special fame. These are Mansiya Kalmagambetovna Samambet, a professor with many years of experience, awarded the "Құрмет" order, the Y. Altynsarin Medal, the "Excellent Educator of the Kaz SSR" badge, the jubilee medal "10 Years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan", and numerous certificates of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK. Mansiya K. Samambet and Menzada K. Samambet are recipients of the grant from the Patrons Club of the Kostanay Region in the "Science" category. Associate Professor Zhabaeva S.S. was awarded the Y. Altynsarin Medal, a certificate from the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK for the 70th anniversary of KGU, a certificate from the akim of the Kostanay region, and Associate Professor Kandalina E.M. was awarded the badge "Honored Worker of Education of the RK" and honored with a certificate from the regional akimat "For conscientious work and upbringing of the younger generation."

According to the results of the republican rating, Atameken educational programs "Foreign Philology" and "Translation Studies" held leading positions in different years: in 2020, Foreign Philology was ranked 3rd, and in 2019, Translation Studies was 6th out of 35.

The Department of Foreign Philology annually invites foreign scholars to give lectures and consult, and collaborates with scholars from European universities: Professor Anna Makerova (University of Paris, France); Doctor of Philosophy Vitezslav Vilimek (University of Ostrava, Czech Republic), foreign teachers of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School.

The Department of Foreign Philology actively participates in international ERASMUS projects: "DIREKT ERASMUS + Development of Trans-regional Information Literacy for Lifelong Learning and Knowledge Economy", "CLASS – Computer Linguistics", "Development of Competencies of Central Asian Universities in the Field of Environmental Policy and Land Use (Erasmus plus)", "Newton-Al-Farabi (British Council, Science Fund of the RK)".

Faculty members actively participate in international projects to enhance their qualifications. Medetova E.B. is the chairperson of the Alliance of French Language Teachers in Kazakhstan. Several faculty members have completed internships at foreign universities: Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, University of Poznan (Poland), Technological University (Limerick, Ireland), University of East Attica (Greece), University of Texas (USA), University of Perpignan (France), University of Hohenheim (Germany), University of La Coruña (Spain), and others.
